Benavides Born Online

Benavides was born "Amy Wendel, is typical of films from the Sundance competition, yet it is not. In the film genre in recent years, high school for girls, girls from ethnic minorities, in particular, tried to succeed in sport ("Girlfight"), in the hope that higher education ("Real Women Have Curves") and a series of conflicts with other family members, friends and teachers.

Luz Garcia (Corina Calderon) can hope to get out of Benavides, Texas, go to the University of Texas at Austin. It has already been approved and have good grades, but have not been able to get college scholarships. His family can not afford to assume the debt of college credit already carrying other debts while trying to meet the medical expenses of her pregnancy sister. So knees Luz, a competitive weightlifter, he hopes to win the state championship in powerlifting, a scholaraship (such as weight lifting is not sweat competitive intercollegiate sports, colleges may not give scholarships for sports, and only the state can challenge them by a state-Dole). So train hard Luz.

As in any competitive sport, competitive weightlifting is not a joke, because a unitards surprisingly difficult and uncomfortable, is struggling to stay in the weight class ("You can lose two pounds a day" ... really? Good teach you how) a growing need to increase the number of bench and lifting weights.

The film follows the Luz, and is preparing to compete in regional competition, a competitor of the mind-games and stubbornness cost him the victory. Lux EKE can advance to the States in any case, at which point the film shows a normal high school sports movie, a montage of almost the exact center. But the film has different expectations, so that it turns the other way. It 'a shame, because the first half of the film works well. And this is certainly not wrong to try to reverse the general sports movie mold it into something else - Sugar is a fantastic film, just because of how it came out of a surprisingly intimate view of a baseball, has begun. But the problem is that NATO Benavides is not entirely clear where the film is going, or what is trying to do, and thus ends unaffecting.

It's a shame, because some things in the film work. Garcia's family is not played by stereotypes, but it is a guarantee and friendly multi-generational Mexican-American family did everything possible to succeed. Mother of Light (Leticia Magana) and sister (Amanda Rivas), in particular, are well-written roles that do not resort to become the stereotype of the "harpies," becomes even more rebellious and difficult to light. In fact, the film does a good job of stereotyping the majority of his characters. I expected the light brother-brother (Joseph Julian Soria), who works in the local oil rig, which seems to be a fool, because that is what the husband of the pregnant woman in the stories of such frequency. But there is a good and honest. Similarly, the boyfriend of Light Raynaldo (Jeremy Ray Valdez) at first appears to be a negative horndog, but measures and have a big enough bullet metaphor for light.
